How to Feed 10 Billion by 2050 – Moving Towards a Sustainable Food Future

There is a big shortfall between the amount of food we produce today and the amount needed to feed everyone in 2050. There will be nearly 10 billion people on Earth by 2050—about 3 billion more mouths to feed than there were in 2010. As incomes rise, people will increasingly consume more resource-intensive, animal-based foods. At the same time, we urgently need to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agricultural production and stop conversion of remaining forests to agricultural land.

Plasma Arc Waste Disposal – Creating a Sustainable Future

Humans are machines for turning the world into waste—at least that’s how it seems. On average, every single person in the United States produces about 2kg of trash per day, which adds to up three quarters of a ton, per person, each year! What are we to do with all this junk? Recycling is one option, but not everyone does it and there are lots of things (such as electronic circuit boards) made from multiple materials that cannot be easily broken down and turned into new things. That’s why much of our waste goes where it’s always gone, buried beneath the ground. But we’re running out of landfill space too—and that problem is bound to get worse. Another possibility is to incinerate waste, as though it were a fuel, and use it to produce energy, but incinerators are deeply unpopular with local communities because of the air pollution they can produce.

Random

Hello world!

Hi there! I’m Kostas and this is my blog. Writing a blog about random thoughts is something I’ve been contemplating about for a long time and I think its high time I did it. I hope I will be able to write one post a week, and I will also be re-posting, and commenting, on interesting stuff I find online. The blog will NOT have a specific theme, hence the name, and it will be mainly written in English.

Expect to read about tech, nature and health a lot. I will not be writing about my daily life here, this is personal, but rather share with you some of my thoughts. I hope you find interesting what you read here and I am looking forward to discussing everything with you.
